Yoshida Gassan Houjun Karakuchi Junmai Sake - 720 ml
Yoshida Gassan Houjun Karakuchi Junmai originates from Yasugi City in the Shimane Prefecture of Japan. The Yoshida Sake Brewery was established in 1743 and has been brewing sake for over 300 years, originally serving as the purveyors for the Hirose clan. The brand 'Gassan' is named after Mount Gassan, home to Tomita Castle, where the finest sake of the year was historically presented to the local Lord.
Description
This classic junmai sake is clear in appearance and is brewed using 100% sake rice, including Gohyaku Mangoku, polished to 70%. It is crafted with 'ultra soft' water, which is recognized as one of the softest brewing waters in Japan. The aromatic profile is refreshing and complex, featuring notes of white grapefruit, cucumber, and white mushroom. On the palate, it offers a mellow yet dry Izumo-style experience with flavours of musk melon, ginger, and mint. It is characterized by a rich, full umami and a crisp, clean finish. The alcohol content is 15% to 15.5%.
Food Pairing
The versatile and dry nature of Houjun Karakuchi makes it an excellent partner for a broad range of cuisines. It pairs exceptionally well with rich seafood dishes such as grilled lobster, seafood pizza, or carbonara linguini. Its umami profile also complements traditional Japanese fare, including sushi, grilled mackerel, and tempura. For meat-based meals, it is a fine accompaniment to yakitori or steak. This sake is unique for its ability to be enjoyed at various temperatures, from chilled at 10°C to warmed at 40°C.
