Gekkeikan 'Plum Wine' Umeshu - 750 ml
Gekkeikan Plum Wine, also known as Umeshu, is an authentic Japanese fruit wine originating from the Fushimi district in the Kyoto prefecture. It is crafted by Gekkeikan Sake Brewing Co. Ltd., a historic brewery with a legacy dating back to 1637. This specialty wine is produced by fermenting and aging the choicest nanko plums sourced from the world-renowned orchards of Wakayama in central Japan.
Description
This plum wine presents a beautiful amber yellow colour and a rich, full-bodied sensory profile. It features a complex bouquet with juicy sweet aromas of ripe peach, nectarine, and tart ume plum, accented by notes of baking spices, honey, and toasted almonds. On the palate, it is mellow and slightly syrupy, offering an exquisite balance of intense plum nectar sweetness and a refreshing tart acidity. The finish is long and clean, leaving a pleasant fruity residue without being cloyingly sweet. It has an alcohol by volume of 13%.
Food Pairing
Gekkeikan Plum Wine is a versatile companion for both savory and sweet dishes. Its natural sweetness and acidity make it an excellent match for spicy cuisines, such as Szechuan chicken or Thai curry, as it helps cut through the heat. It also pairs well with rich, savory items like Hoisin-glazed ribs, roast beef, and blue cheese. For dessert, it can be enjoyed as a 'dessert wine' alongside fruit tarts and chocolate, or even drizzled directly over vanilla ice cream and yogurt.
