Bulldog Gin
Introduction
Bulldog London Dry Gin is a premium gin from the United Kingdom, specifically distilled in England at the historic G&J Greenall Distillery. Launched in 2007 by former investment banker Anshuman Vohra, the brand was created to offer a modern, bold alternative to "outdated" gins. Its name and "Bulldog Spirit" are inspired by Sir Winston Churchill. In 2017, the brand was acquired by the Campari Group, which now oversees its global distribution.
Spirit Description
Bulldog is a "modern" interpretation of the London Dry style, quadruple-distilled in copper pot stills using 100% British wheat and Welsh water. It is distinguished by a unique blend of 12 botanicals sourced from eight countries, including exotic ingredients like dragon eye (a fruit similar to lychee), white poppy, and lotus leaves.
Colour: Crystal clear.
Aroma: A bouquet of piney juniper, floral lavender, citrus lime zest, and a musky, nutty hint of angelica.
Palate: Unexpectedly smooth and creamy for a 40% spirit. It features a juniper-forward taste balanced by layers of almond, liquorice, and cassia spice.
Body: Medium-bodied with a soft mouthfeel.
Finish: A crisp finish with lingering notes of nutty angelica and a warm, cracked black pepper spice.
ABV: Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
Accolades
Bulldog Gin earned early acclaim as one of the highest-rated gins ever by Wine Enthusiast Magazine at the time of its launch. Its accolades include:
Top 50 Spirit: Named a Top 50 Spirit by Wine Enthusiast.
Silver Medal: Awarded at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Bronze Medal: Earned at the Berlin International Spirits Competition (2020).
