Bruichladdich Octomore 15.3
Bruichladdich Octomore 15.3 is the heavyweight "super-heavily peated" release of the 2024/2025 Octomore series. It represents a landmark moment for the distillery, clocking in at a staggering 307.2 PPM (phenol parts per million)—making it the second most heavily peated whisky ever released, surpassed only by the legendary Octomore 8.3 (309.1 PPM). Distilled from 100% Islay-grown Concerto barley harvested from Octomore Farm (located just two miles from the distillery), this 5-year-old single malt is a study in "The Impossible Equation": balancing extreme smoke with the delicate, honeyed sweetness of local barley.
Spirit Description
Despite its astronomical peat levels, the liquid is noted for its "patient distillation," which preserves the characteristic fruitiness of the Bruichladdich spirit. It is bottled at a powerful cask strength of 61.3% ABV, yet maintains a remarkably soft and unctuous texture.
Nose: Smoked cinder toffee, rich malted barley sugar, and honey lead the way. These are balanced by fresh citrus, crushed seashells, toasted nuts, and a hint of coconut that adds depth to the heady peat smoke.
Palate: Exceptionally rounded and viscous. It features a creamy "vanilla custard" and butterscotch profile, punctuated by dried fruits, sweet orange zest, and toasted oak. The massive peat influence is present but integrated, feeling more like "earthy malt" than a simple smokebomb.
Finish: Long and atmospheric. Notes of burnt sugar and coconut linger alongside a delicate sea spray, leaving a lasting impression of dry, earthy peat smoke.
