Valfaccenda Roero Nebbiolo 2023
Valfaccenda Roero Nebbiolo is a red wine from the Roero region in Piedmont, Italy. The winery, established in 2010 by enologist Luca Faccenda and his partner Carolina Roggero, is located in the 'Valle Faccenda', a small valley between Canale and Santo Stefano Roero with family viticultural roots dating back to 1749. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes a 'hands-off' approach to translate the unique sandy terroir of Roero into the glass, avoiding the heavy extraction often found in neighbouring regions.
Wine Description
This wine presents a bright, luminous ruby red colour with violet reflections and delicate lightening at the rim. The nose is fragrant and precise, dominated by sour cherries, wild raspberries, and blackberry, complemented by floral notes of rosehip and blossoms, as well as herbal hints of thyme and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is dry and elegant with a light to medium body that feels 'dancing' and nimble. It features a vibrant acidity and youthful, refined tannins that balance a delicate fruit sweetness, leading to an ethereal and cool finish. This 100% Nebbiolo is a blend from several vineyard sites, including Mompellini, Loreto, and San Grato, which are characterized by sandy and clay soils.
Food Pairing
This wine's refreshing acidity and elegant structure make it a perfect match for rustic, traditional Piedmontese cuisine. Suggested pairings include pasta with ragù or tomato sauce, mushroom and porcini risottos, and veal schnitzel or vitello tonnato. It also pairs excellently with grilled vegetables, game meats like venison, and aged cheeses.
