Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2021

Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2021

This elegant and ethereal red wine originates from the Comune di Barolo in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. G.D. Vajra, a benchmark family estate led by Aldo and Milena Vajra alongside their children, is renowned for its traditionalist approach and commitment to organic farming since 1971. Coste di Rose is a unique MGA (single vineyard) situated on a steep, east-facing slope between the famous Cannubi and Bussia hills. The vineyard's defining feature is its high concentration of Arenaria di Diano (sandstone), which produces a lighter-framed, more aromatic Barolo compared to the heavier clay-based sites in the region.

Wine Description

The G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste di Rose (the most current release) presents a clear ruby colour with a bright, translucent rim. The sensory profile is remarkably floral and lifted, featuring an expressive nose of rose petals, wild strawberry, and candied cherry, layered with sophisticated notes of mint, sweet spices, and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied but graceful, showcasing "chiseled," silky tannins and a vibrant acidity. It is characterized by its saline, mineral energy, leading to a long, iodine-tinged finish that is a hallmark of its sandstone terroir. This 100% Nebbiolo was aged for 26 months in large Slavonian oak casks to allow the pure fruit character to shine without the heavy influence of new wood.
