Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno 2015
This prestigious red wine originates from the Toscana IGT appellation in the Tuscany region of Italy. Tenuta Sette Ponti has been owned by the Moretti Cuseri family since the 1950s, though the estate's viticultural history dates back to the mid-18th century. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a commitment to excellence and high-density planting, with Oreno serving as the estate's flagship 'Super Tuscan' blend named after the river that runs through the property.
Wine Description
The Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno 2015 presents a deep, dark ruby red colour with purple reflections. The sensory profile is rich and multi-layered, featuring a complex bouquet of blackberries, ripe plums, and dark currants, layered with sophisticated notes of chocolate, balsamic, tobacco, and sweet oak spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, showcasing a velvety texture with powerful, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity that maintains structural balance. It is characterized by its immense depth and a long, persistent finish that reveals hints of espresso and Mediterranean herbs. This Bordeaux-style blend is composed of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, with an ABV of 14.5% to 15%. The wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels followed by one year of refinement in the bottle.
Vintage Quality
The 2015 vintage in Tuscany is regarded as a legendary and 'textbook' year, characterized by a perfect growing season with a warm, dry summer and cool nights that allowed for optimal phenolic ripeness. These ideal conditions resulted in wines of extraordinary balance, power, and aromatic intensity, with many critics considering 2015 to be one of the greatest vintages for Super Tuscans in recent history. Winemakers benefited from a tranquil harvest period, producing fruit with exceptional health and concentration.
