Produttori del Barbaresco - Barbaresco 'Ovello' Riserva 2019
This red wine is produced in Italy, specifically in the Barbaresco region within the esteemed Ovello subregion. Produttori del Barbaresco was established in 1958 when the local parish priest, Don Fiorino Marengo, united 19 small growers to protect their vineyards and the future of the Nebbiolo grape. Today, the winery operates as a premier cooperative with over 50 members who collectively manage 120 hectares of premium vineyards. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on a pure, clean expression of the territory, ensuring that single vineyard Riservas are only bottled during exceptional vintages to maintain the highest quality standards.
Wine Description
The 2019 Barbaresco Ovello Riserva presents a bright ruby red colour with garnet reflections. The aromatic profile is deep and complex, featuring scents of crushed violets, black raspberries, tea leaf, and sweet herbs, alongside savory hints of turned soil and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and intensely linear, delivering flavors of ripe Marasca cherry, cranberry, star anise, and ground clove. It is characterized by its massive structure, vibrant acidity, and firm, close-grained tannins that lead into a long finish with saline and mineral notes. This 100% Nebbiolo wine has an ABV of 14.5%. While the wine currently shows youthful tension, its optimal drinking window is between 2026 and 2050.

Food Pairing
The firm structure and high acidity of this wine make it an excellent companion for rich, savory Italian dishes. Suggested pairings include fresh egg pastas such as tajarin with a meat ragu or risotto finished with truffles or wild mushrooms. It also pairs well with roasted red meats, venison, or braised beef. For cheese courses, aged hard cheeses are recommended to balance the wine's youthful tannins.
Vintage Quality
The 2019 vintage in Barbaresco is regarded as a 'classic' year, marked by a long and balanced growing season that allowed for exceptional phenolic ripeness. Cooler temperatures in the spring delayed budbreak, while ideal warm weather in September resulted in grapes with excellent sugar levels, vibrant acidity, and an extraordinary structural harmony.
