Produttori del Barbaresco - Barbaresco 'Asili' Riserva 2020
Introduction
Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Asili Riserva 2020 originates from the Piedmont region of Italy, specifically from the historic Asili vineyard within the Barbaresco subregion. The Produttori del Barbaresco is a world renowned cooperative founded in 1958, currently uniting over 50 growers who exclusively produce Nebbiolo across some of the region's most prestigious sites. The winery's philosophy centers on traditional winemaking to express the distinct terroir of individual vineyards, only releasing these single cru Riservas in exceptional vintages.
Wine Description
This elegant red wine presents a brilliant garnet red colour with shades of orange. The aromatic profile is highly fragrant and complex, opening with alluring scents of dog rose, eucalyptus, and lavender, followed by deeper notes of new leather, forest floor, and dark spice. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied and impeccably balanced, delivering juicy flavours of Morello cherry, raspberry, and blood orange alongside star anise and a hint of truffle. The wine is characterized by its fine grained, silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that provides great linear structure and finesse. It concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by mineral notes, licorice root, and crushed rocks. This 100% Nebbiolo varietal composition was aged for 36 months in large oak barrels followed by 12 months in the bottle. The alcohol content is 14.5% ABV, and the optimal drinking window extends from 2026 through 2045.

Food Pairing
The structural poise and intense fruit of Asili Riserva make it a superb partner for sophisticated, earthy dishes. It pairs beautifully with roasted or braised red meats such as lamb chops and beef stew, as well as game birds like pheasant. The wine's herbal and mineral nuances also complement mushroom risotto, pasta with rich meat sauces, and aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino.
Vintage Quality
The 2020 vintage in Barbaresco is considered extremely good, characterized by a mild spring and a warm summer with well timed rains that prevented water stress. Cool nights through late September helped the Nebbiolo grapes achieve excellent aromatic concentration and balanced acidity, resulting in a harvest of healthy grapes with perfect maturity and more supple tannins than the preceding 2019 vintage.
