Priest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019

Priest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019

Introduction

Priest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is an estate-grown red wine from the United States, originating from the Napa Valley appellation in California. This historic property was established in 1869 by James Joshua Priest, a Gold Rush prospector, and is now part of the expansive Somerston Estate. The winemaking philosophy, led by founding winemaker Craig Becker, focuses on utilizing the property's diverse landscape—encompassing 15 distinct vineyard sites at elevations ranging from 850 to 1,650 feet—to produce wines that capture the unique mountain character of the Vaca Mountains.

Wine Description

The 2019 vintage presents an inky, pitch-black colour with a deep ruby hue. On the nose, it offers an expressive bouquet of black cherry, blueberry, and baked berry pie, layered with complex notes of cherry cola, vanilla, and fresh thyme. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, featuring concentrated flavours of blackcurrant, ripe plum, and dark fruit accented by star anise, cinnamon, and a hint of mint. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in French oak barrels (40% new and 60% once-used) and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in a plush mouthfeel with firm yet silky, integrated tannins. It is characterized by its balanced acidity and a long, persistent finish that echoes notes of tobacco and licorice. The optimal drinking window is open now and extends through 2032.

It also pairs exceptionally well with wild game like venison or hearty vegetarian options such as portobello mushrooms and eggplant parmesan. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
