Ployez Jacquemart Blanc de Blanc 2010

Ployez Jacquemart Blanc de Blanc 2010

This vintage Champagne is from the Ployez-Jacquemart family House, established in 1930. The House is located in Ludes, a Premier Cru village in the heart of France's Champagne region. The vineyards used for this wine are from Premier and Grand Cru sites in both the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs sub-regions. Current cellar master, Laurence Ployez, the granddaughter of the founders, is a third-generation winemaker who oversees the winemaking process. The winery's philosophy is centred on safeguarding the wine's freshness and minerality by following a rigorous and precise technical chain, including extra-long ageing sur pointe (nose-to-punt). They blend very lightly in an Extra Brut style to allow the natural fruitiness and authentic personality of each wine to express itself.

Wine Description

The Ployez-Jacquemart Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2010 is a single-varietal Champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. It has an elegant mousse and a refined finish.

The sensory profile is complex and elegant. The bouquet is bright, precise, and complex, offering notes of delicious apple, pear, and fresh-baked bread. It also presents subtle roasted notes, alongside aromas of hazelnut, chalky soil, lovely floral tones, and a discreet framing of buttery oak. The palate is deep, full-bodied, and precise, with an excellent core and a fine base of mineral drive. All the creaminess of the Chardonnay is said to explode on the palate. The wine shows impeccable balance and focus, with a long, bright, very complex finish.

The wine was aged for fully ten years on its fine lees before being disgorged, and finished with a low dosage of just under four grams per litre. This preserves the purity of the wine and allows all the Chardonnay aromas to be expressed. The optimal drinking window is long, with one critic suggesting it can be enjoyed between 2024 and 2055.

Accolades

  • Wine Spectator - 94 points

  • Vinous - 93 points

Food Pairing

This Blanc de Blancs is a versatile sparkling wine. Suggested pairings are tailored to its purity and freshness, including seafood, shellfish, crab, and lobster. Its delicacy also makes it a great choice for sushi and sashimi, or lean to medium-fat fish. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
