Numanthia 2020
Numanthia 2020 originates from Spain, specifically from the Toro region within the Castilla y León subregion. The estate is a living tribute to the ancient city of Numancia, whose residents heroically resisted Roman invasion in 134 B.C.. Currently owned by LVMH, Bodega Numanthia is celebrated for its historic, ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines—some reaching 200 years old—that survived the phylloxera plague due to the region's sandy soils. The winemaking philosophy centers on revealing the potential of this "timeless" terroir by crafting wines that balance the extreme intensity of Toro’s climate with refined elegance and structural depth.
Wine Description
This red wine presents an intense, deep purple colour with reddish and violet rims. The 2020 vintage is noted for being fresher and livelier than its predecessors.
Aroma: A sophisticated bouquet of forest berries and ripe cranberries intertwined with dried flowers, cocoa, and sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Subtle notes of smoke, balsam, rosemary, and dry earth emerge with aeration.
Palate: Expansive and silky, delivering concentrated flavours of blackcurrants and forest fruits supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. It maintains a solid structure with a fresh acidity that lends a sense of refinement.
Finish: Long and persistent, with a distinct mineral touch of graphite and lingering notes of smoke and warm spices.
Varietal Composition: 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) from vines aged 50 to 120 years.
ABV: 15.5%.
Organic Status: Certified Organic since 2020; the wine is made from ungrafted, low-yielding vines.
Stylistic Notes: Aged for 16 to 18 months in new French oak barrels with rackings every four months to ensure balance and soft texture.
