Michel Gassier Lou Coucardie Rouge 2017

Michel Gassier Lou Coucardie Rouge 2017

Hailing from the Costières de Nîmes appellation in the southern Rhône Valley, France, this cuvée is produced by Domaine Gassier. Michel Gassier, a fourth-generation winemaker, manages the estate alongside his wife Tina with a philosophy rooted in organic and regenerative agriculture to preserve the unique terroir. The estate's vineyards are situated on terraces of ancient Rhône river pebbles (galets) overlooking the Camargue, where the family acts as caretakers for future generations.

Wine Description

The Lou Coucardie Rouge presents a dark, nearly black colour, signaling its significant concentration. The nose is powerful and complex, offering intense aromas of blackberry, plum, and black cherry layered with vanilla, spices, and distinct notes of eucalyptus and garrigue. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, delivering flavours of dark berries, licorice, and warm spice. Its structure is defined by firm yet silky tannins and a finish that remains aerial and fresh despite its richness.

Food Pairing

The wine's robust structure and aromatic depth make it an ideal companion for grilled game sausages, venison, or beef served with a wild mushroom sauce. It also pairs beautifully with Osso buco or hard, aged cheeses.
