Massetino 2023
Massetino is the esteemed 'second wine' of the legendary Masseto estate, a jewel in the portfolio of the Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi family, who have been winemakers for over 700 years. The estate’s winemaking philosophy centres on the uncompromising pursuit of excellence and expressing the unique character of their terroir, which is defined by ancient Pliocene blue clays ideally suited for Merlot.
Wine Description
The bouquet is already very pleasant, offering fresh and intoxicating red fruit aromas mingled with notes of restrained bramble fruit, vanilla, cloves, eucalyptus, and leather. It also displays tertiary notes of damp earth, Mediterranean scrub, and chocolatey nuances.
On the palate, Merlot and Cabernet Franc merge to exalt the wine’s concentration. It is full-bodied, yet defined by a steely energy and a lovely line of acidity that runs through the body, giving it a freshness and juicy character. The structure is vertical and supported by firm, velvety tannins and notes of graphite and chocolate flavours, with a slight tangy note persisting on the long finish.
Accolades
