La Stoppa Macchiona 2016

La Stoppa Macchiona 2016

La Stoppa Macchiona is a flagship red wine produced in Italy, within the Emilia Romagna region and the Emilia IGT. Founded over a century ago in the Trebbiola Valley, the ancient estate was acquired by the Pantaleoni family in 1973 and is currently led by Elena Pantaleoni with winemaker Giulio Armani. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on organic cultivation and minimal intervention, utilizing the estate’s oldest vines and poor, silty-clay soils to produce authentic, terroir driven wines that reflect the traditions of the Piacenza province.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a deep ruby red colour and a complex, well balanced sensory profile. On the nose, it reveals rich aromas of dark berries, ripe cherries, and plums, layered with spicy and earthy notes of leather, cedar, and incense. The palate is structured and fresh, featuring ripe black fruit, firm tannins, and a zesty acidity that provides a savoury, rustic edge. The finish is long and mouthwatering, characterized by a tart cranberry concentration.

Accolades

  • Vinous - 93 points

Food Pairing

The robust structure and vibrant acidity of Macchiona make it an ideal companion for hearty dishes such as roast game, grilled lamb, or a cut of beef served with baked potatoes. It also pairs excellently with charcuterie, rich cheeses, and pasta dishes featuring meat or vegetable sauces.
