Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength
Introduction
Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength is a historic single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland. Produced by the Glenfarclas Distillery, which was officially founded in 1836 by Robert Hay, the distillery has been owned and managed by the Grant family since 1865. In 1968, George S. Grant released the first commercial barrel proof single malt whisky as a Christmas gift for friends; originally named 'Glenfarclas 105', the name refers to its alcohol content in British Proof.
Spirit Description
This uncolored expression is crafted by marrying various casks—typically aged between 8 and 10 years—to achieve a consistent and powerful strength without the addition of water. It is matured primarily in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels, though the distillery character is heavily influenced by Oloroso sherry butts.
Colour: The spirit displays a deep, coppery amber or amber gold hue.
Aroma: The nose is complex and assertive, featuring rich notes of dark toffee, honey on toast, and sherried fruits like raisins and cranberries, complemented by crisp apples, pears, and a hint of smoky coffee.
Palate: It offers a dry and silken arrival that rapidly develops into a rich spiciness of peppery oak, cinnamon, and cloves, layered with almond, praline, and boozy Christmas cake.
Body: The whisky is full-bodied and robust, possessing an intense concentration of flavours that many find challenging but rewarding at full strength.
Finish: It concludes with a long, smooth, and warming finish characterized by peppery oak, dried fruits, and a lingering, well-rounded smokiness.
ABV: Glenfarclas 105 is bottled at a constant 60% (105 British Proof).
