Falkenstein Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Falkenstein Sauvignon Blanc originates from Italy, specifically from the Alto Adige region (Südtirol) and the Val Venosta subregion. The winery, which has been family-owned for over 400 years, saw a significant shift in 1995 when Franz and Bernadette Pratzner transitioned from apple cultivation to viticulture. Today, the estate is managed by Franz and his daughter Magdalena, who follow a philosophy of manual labor and minimal intervention to produce wines that reflect their specific mountain terroir.
Wine Description
This white wine presents a straw yellow colour with brilliant reflections and a medium-to-light body. The sensory profile is fresh and complex, featuring an aromatic nose of alfalfa, green pepper, and gooseberry, enriched with pleasant mineral notes. On the palate, it is fresh, iodized, and pleasantly brackish, delivering flavours of blackcurrant, grapefruit, and elderflower. The structure is defined by a vibrant, accentuated acidity that lingers on the refreshing finish.
Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is fermented in acacia barrels for 7–10 weeks and aged in the same containers for 9 months before bottling, contributing to its unique personality and complexity.
ABV: 13.5%.
Organic Status: While the winery utilizes organic and biodynamic practices to respect the environment, the estate is not currently certified organic.
