Elvio Cogno Barolo Riserva 'Vigna Elena' 2018
Elvio Cogno Barolo Riserva 'Vigna Elena' 2018 originates from Italy, within the Ravera cru of the Novello commune in the Barolo subregion of Piedmont. The estate was established in 1990 by Elvio Cogno after he left a long partnership at Marcarini to purchase a historic 18th century farmhouse on Bricco Ravera. Now led by his daughter Nadia and son in law Valter Fissore, the winery follows a traditional philosophy of minimal intervention, long fermentations, and extended ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels to emphasize the unique terroir of the Ravera hill. The 'Vigna Elena' plot is a single hectare dedicated specifically to the Nebbiolo Rosé clone, which is prized for its lighter colour and delicate, intense floral aromas.
Wine Description
This Barolo Riserva displays a brilliant garnet red colour. The sensory profile is elegant and complex, featuring an aromatic bouquet of rose petals, tart sour cherries, and raspberries, interwoven with secondary notes of sweet spices like cinnamon, tobacco, and wild thyme. On the palate, it is medium bodied and linear, delivering flavours of strawberry, cranberry, and orange peel with a distinctive saline mineral undertone. The structure is defined by highly refined, polished tannins and a vibrant acidity that ensures a long, expressive finish. Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo (Rosé clone), the wine has an ABV of 14.5%. It is aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels followed by 24 months of bottle ageing. The estate follows sustainable cultivation practices.
