Dugat Py Gevrey Chambertin 'Petite Chapelle' Premier Cru 2023
This rare and monumental red wine originates from the Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. Domaine Dugat-Py is widely regarded as a producer of "unobtainium," crafting some of the most concentrated and long-lived Pinot Noirs in the world. The Petite Chapelle vineyard (also known as En la Chapelle) sits immediately adjacent to the eastern boundary of the Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru. The winery's philosophy leverages 50+ year-old vines and tiny yields to create a wine that often rivals Grand Crus in intensity and depth.
Wine Description
The Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Petite Chapelle presents an opaque, saturated dark ruby colour. The sensory profile is exceptionally deep, featuring an aromatic nose of cherry cordial, black plum compote, and wild raspberry, layered with sophisticated notes of iron-like minerality, tea leaves, and exotic spice rack. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and "bigger boned" than many of its siblings, showcased by a cashmere-like texture and superb structural tension. It is characterized by its remarkable "zen-like" balance, leading to a long finish with hints of violet, dark chocolate, and cedar. This 100% Pinot Noir is crafted from vines planted in 1964, fermented with a high percentage of whole bunches (75–100%), and aged for 16–18 months in 100% new French oak casks.
