Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 - 375 ml
This structured and "genteel" red wine originates from the United States, specifically from the premier Napa Valley region in California. Founded in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, Duckhorn Vineyards is an iconic Napa institution that helped define the modern era of American winemaking. While the winery originally focused on Merlot, its Cabernet Sauvignon has become a benchmark for the region, known for its "seamless blend of elegance and strength". The winemaking philosophy involves a "terroir-driven" approach, blending fruit from top-tier estate vineyards; including sites on the alluvial fans of the valley floor and the coveted slopes of Howell Mountain to achieve a harmonious and complex profile.
Wine Description
Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon presents a deep ruby core. The sensory profile is highly aromatic and expressive, featuring a nose of dark red berries, cassis, and cardamom, layered with sophisticated notes of fresh tobacco, crushed stones, and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and "smooth," showcasing rich flavours of fig jam and boysenberry pie underpinned by a refined minerality and warm oak spice. It is characterized by its firm, dusty tannins and a vibrant acidity (typically around 0.58 g/100ml) that provides an impressive structure and a long, polished finish. This blend typically consists of approximately 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc added for softness and complexity, reaching an ABV of 14.5%. The wine is matured for 16 months in 100% French oak, with roughly 50% being new barrels. While the estate is a leader in sustainable viticulture and uses organic fertilizers, this bottling is not certified organic.
