Chateau de Purcari 'Negru De Purcari' 2020
Introduction
From the Republic of Moldova, produced in the southeastern Ștefan Vodă region. Often referred to as the 'King of Red Wines', it is the flagship blend of Château Purcari, an estate founded in 1827 that has long supplied royal courts across Europe. The winery's philosophy combines traditional hand-harvesting methods with modern French oak maturation to create a wine that rivals the fine cuvées of Bordeaux.
Wine Description
The 2020 vintage presents an intense, dark red colour with youthful reflections. Its complex bouquet offers sweet aromas of ripe plums and figs, which evolve to reveal notes of blackcurrant, cassis, tobacco leaf, and Asian spices such as saffron and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and robust, showcasing a rich texture of dark berries, mocha, and woody mineral tones. It is a structured blend typically composed of 55% to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% to 40% Saperavi, and 5% Rara Neagră. The wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, resulting in soft, velvety tannins and a long, sensual aftertaste. The optimal drinking window for this vintage is projected from 2025 through 2030.
