Charles Heidsieck Blanc De Blancs
Introduction
This champagne originates from France, specifically from the Champagne region. Founded in 1851 by the legendary Charles-Henri Heidsieck, the house is one of the most admired in the region for its commitment to complexity and long term aging. In 2011, the winery was acquired by the Descours family, who continue the founder's philosophy of using high proportions of reserve wines and extended maturation in two thousand year old chalk cellars to achieve a signature silken texture.
Wine Description
The Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs is a pale, crystalline gold colour with fine, persistent effervescence. The nose reveals a sophisticated bouquet of white peach, candied citrus, and honeysuckle, accented by toasted hazelnuts and a delicate pastry character. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with a creamy, velvety texture that balances fresh acidity with notes of lemon oil, tangerine, and a distinct chalky minerality. It is characterized by its tension and 'surprising suavity,' leading to a long finish with a hint of saline minerality. This cuvée is crafted from 100% Chardonnay and typically includes 25% reserve wines. The ABV is 12%. While the house utilizes sustainable viticulture and avoids insecticides, this wine is not certified organic. The optimal drinking window for this non vintage bottling is from now through 2030.
