Castello Di Verduno Barbaresco Rabajabas 2019
Introduction
Castello Di Verduno Barbaresco Rabaja Bas originates from the esteemed Barbaresco DOCG in the Piedmont region of Italy. The historic estate is owned by the Burlotto family and led by Gabriella Burlotto and Franco Bianco, who maintain a beautiful cellar at the top of the village of Verduno. The winemaking philosophy is deeply rooted in tradition, emphasizing soulful expressions of terroir through sustainable farming and time-honoured methods like fermentation with indigenous yeasts and aging in large oak barrels.
Wine Description
This wine exhibits a beautiful medium red to light garnet colour typical of the Nebbiolo variety. The sensory profile is fragrant and clear, featuring primary aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries, and alpine berries, which are layered with notes of east-Asian spice, tobacco, sandalwood, and rose petals. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and structured yet elegant, offering a substantial mouth-filling texture with flavours of cherry, mint, and savory mineral earthiness. This 100% Nebbiolo is crafted from vines planted between 1974 and 1990 in the Rabajà-Bas vineyard, a site formerly part of the famous Rabajà cru before being divided by a road in the 1990s. The wine was fermented in stainless steel followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in large used Slavonian oak vats and typically has an ABV of 14%. It is produced using organic practices and bottled without fining or filtration. The optimal drinking window extends from the present through 2057.
