Amelie & Charles Sparr Pinot Gris Sensation
Domaine Amelie & Charles Sparr was founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife team Charles and Amélie Sparr, both of whom hail from deep-rooted Alsatian winegrowing families. Charles is the twelfth generation of the Sparr family, which dates back to 1634. Their winemaking philosophy is based on creating terroir-true, dry wines using 100% biodynamic principles, having achieved Demeter certification as of the 2019 vintage. This approach involves meticulous manual and artisanal techniques, utilizing the lunar calendar, and planting beneficial herbs to enhance the vineyard ecosystem.
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Gris grapes. It presents a pale straw yellow and bright colour. The nose is intense, offering complex aromas of nut, peach, fig, white peach, apple, and warm floral notes of violet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm, and enveloping in taste. It shows remarkable density and complexity, with exotic fruit flavours and a subtle, lightly spicy character. Notes of melon and citrus provide freshness, while a mineral flavour enlivens the wine. The finish reveals subtle caraway and hints of tannin or bitterness, contributing to its length. The wine is a structured white, faithful to the traditions of the territory.
