Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco Versalto 2022
This harmonious and high-altitude white wine originates from Italy, specifically from the Alto Adige DOC (South Tyrol) in the heart of the Alps. Versalto is a curated composition of Pinot Bianco sourced from unique sites at elevations between 480 and 660 meters, including Pochi di Salorno, Penone, and Tirolo near Merano. The name reflects the "harmony of high altitudes," blending Mediterranean soils with volcanic and limestone origins. Alois Lageder, a certified biodynamic estate, uses this label to showcase a more structured and mineral-driven side of Pinot Bianco compared to their "Classic" range.
Wine Description
Alois Lageder Versalto Pinot Bianco presents a clear, bright straw-yellow color with a distinctive green shimmer. The sensory profile is elegant and "restrained," featuring an aromatic nose of unripe pear, orchard-fresh apple, and candied lemons, layered with sophisticated notes of slate, wet stone, and tea biscuits. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and "linear," showcasing a crisp, direct personality with a tang of salinity and refreshing acidity. It is characterized by its remarkable "Dolomitic quality" and a lingering finish of elderflower and dried thyme. This 100% Pinot Bianco reached an ABV of 11.5% to 12% and was matured on the lees for approximately nine months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks.
