Vietti Barolo 2021
Italy, Piedmont, Barolo. The Vietti winery was founded in the late 19th century by Carlo Vietti in the medieval village of Castiglione Falletto. Under the later leadership of Alfredo Currado and Luciana Vietti, the estate became a pioneer in the region, famously being among the first to vinify single vineyard 'crus' and resurrecting the nearly extinct Arneis grape. Today, the winery continues its legacy of blending tradition with careful experimentation to produce wines with a strong, individual identity.
Wine Description
This Barolo Castiglione 2021 presents a medium intensity ruby red colour. The nose is explosive and opulent, offering a complex bouquet of dried roses, red cherry, plum, and blackberry, intertwined with notes of liquorice, tobacco, and truffle. On the palate, the wine is rich and powerful yet elegant, featuring flavours of alpine herbs, strawberries, and spice that lead into a long, savoury leather finish. It is a full bodied red with a vibrant backbone of acidity and silky, well integrated tannins.
Varietal Composition: 100% Nebbiolo.
Optimal Drinking Window: While drinkable now with decanting, it is best enjoyed from 2027 through 2042.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its balance, freshness, and haunting complexity, showing a deep, layered profile that approaches the level of single vineyard crus.
Organic Status: Vietti follows organic methods in their production to ensure rich flavours and distinct aromatic structure.
