Trefethen Chardonnay 2021

Introduction

This white wine originates from the United States, specifically the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, California. Trefethen Family Vineyards is one of Napa's landmark estates, famous for winning the "Wine Olympics" in Paris in 1979 with their 1976 Chardonnay. The estate remains family-owned and is currently managed by the third generation. They are known for a "pro-acidity" style that avoids the heavy, buttery cliches of Napa Chardonnay, instead favoring elegance and a structure modeled after the long-lived Burgundian classics.

Wine Description

• Appearance: Brilliant light gold or pale straw.

• Nose: Highly aromatic and crisp, featuring a bouquet of lemon, jasmine, white peach, and lavender, with subtle layers of green apple and gardenia.

• Palate: The wine is medium-bodied with a "zingy" and bright acidity. It offers flavors of honeydew melon, citrus zest, and pear, supported by very light oak-derived notes of vanilla and toasted nuts. Unlike many Napa Chardonnays, it maintains a refreshing, clean finish without being weighed down by heavy malolactic influence.
