The Glenrothes 42 Year Old is a rare and prestigious single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland. The Glenrothes Distillery was founded in 1878 by James Stuart and is currently owned by the Edrington Group. This limited release, which debuted in early 2023, represents a significant milestone for the distillery as its first ever 42 year old expression, following only the elusive 50 year old in terms of age.
Spirit Description
Master Whisky Maker Laura Rampling selected just four exceptional refill casks from 1980 to create this unique marriage, aiming to refine the distillery's signature fruity spirit without the wood overpowering its delicate character.
Colour: The whisky possesses a naturally deep amber tone, a result of four decades of oak maturation without added colouring.
Aroma: The nose is intensely aromatic and tropical, featuring sun-ripened apricots, orange peel, mango, and passionfruit, layered with sugared almonds, coriander seed, and a hint of fresh cedar wood.
Palate: It offers a richly sweet and velvety mouthfeel with notes of honeycomb, brown sugar, and vanilla. These are complemented by orange oil, toasted almonds, and earthy undertones of coriander and cedar.
Body: The spirit is described as smooth, creamy, and beautifully elegant.
Finish: It concludes with a long, persistent, and velvety smooth finish that lingers with sweet aromatic notes and gentle earthy spices.
ABV: This expression is bottled at 43%.
