Stroppiana Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Stroppiana Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Stroppiana Langhe Nebbiolo is an elegant red wine from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. Produced by the Stroppiana family in the village of La Morra, this wine is often considered a 'junior' version of their Barolo, offering a more immediate and accessible expression of the Nebbiolo grape. The winery, currently managed by Dario and Stefania Stroppiana along with their children, focuses on maintaining traditional viticultural practices across their small, family-owned estate.

Wine Description

This wine displays a bright ruby red colour that tends toward garnet as it ages. The sensory profile is marked by a delicate and fruity bouquet, featuring prominent aromas of violet, raspberry, and red currant, often accented by a hint of rose petal. On the palate, it is dry and harmonious with a velvety texture, showcasing flavours of fresh red berries, dark cherry, and a touch of white pepper. While it possesses the characteristic Nebbiolo acidity and tannin, they are more supple and approachable than those found in long-aged Barolo. Typically aged for approximately 6 to 8 months in stainless steel or used oak to preserve its freshness, the wine generally has an ABV of 14%. The wine is produced following sustainable farming principles, though it does not carry an official organic certification.

Food Pairing

Langhe Nebbiolo is a highly versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with tajarin pasta tossed in butter and sage or a simple tomato-based ragu. It is an excellent match for feathered game, roasted poultry, and veal dishes. Due to its balanced tannins, it also complements medium-aged cheeses such as Toma Piemontese or Fontina, as well as classic antipasti featuring cured meats.
