Screaming Eagle 'The Flight' 2019
This red wine originates from the United States, specifically from the Oakville subregion of the Napa Valley in California. Screaming Eagle was founded in 1986 by real estate agent Jean Phillips, who purchased a 57 acre vineyard and was encouraged by Robert Mondavi to produce her own wine. Now under the sole ownership of Stanley Kroenke, the estate is arguably the most famous cult winery in North America, with a winemaking philosophy led by Nick Gislason that focuses on the energy and confident delicacy of the fruit.
Wine Description
Screaming Eagle 'The Flight' 2019 is a dark, powerful, and brooding red blend with a deep ruby or purplish hue. The nose is extraordinarily aromatic and floral, featuring intense scents of violets, lavender, and crushed flowers layered over a core of red cherries, raspberries, and black olives. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with a virile and explosive character, showing off its arresting beauty through waves of graphite, black cherry, and plum. It is characterized by its remarkable finesse, vibrancy, and firm, fine grained tannins that run the length of the wine, leading to a long finish with a greenish undertone of spearmint and green tea. This blend consists of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, with an ABV of 14.7%. While not certified organic, the estate's vineyard management is held to the highest standards. The optimal drinking window for this vintage is from 2028 through 2050.

Food Pairing
The structured tannins and elegant profile of this Merlot based blend make it a natural partner for high quality meats and savory vegetarian dishes. It pairs perfectly with roasted lamb seasoned with rosemary and thyme, grilled ribeye steak, or a classic beef tenderloin with a red wine reduction. Its floral and mineral undertones also complement mushroom risotto, hearty pasta dishes with rich sauces, and aged hard cheeses like Gouda or aged cheddar.
Vintage Quality
The 2019 vintage in Napa Valley is considered exceptional, characterized by a steady growing season that produced velvety wines with great balance and concentration. Conditions included a wet spring and a warm summer with few extreme heat events, allowing the fruit to achieve ideal ripeness with low yields and small berries that contribute to the wine's impressive density.
