Sanguinhal Sottal Leve White 2022
Sanguinhal Sottal Leve White is a vibrant white wine from the Lisboa region of Portugal. This wine is produced by Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal, a family estate founded in 1926 by Abel Pereira da Fonseca. The winery manages three distinct estates, Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras, and Quinta de S. Francisco, within the prestigious Óbidos demarcated region. Their winemaking philosophy for this 'Leve' (light) style involves harvesting grapes just before they reach full maturity to maintain high acidity and naturally low alcohol levels.
Wine Description
This wine presents a pale citrine or light yellow colour, a result of its specific vinification method. The sensory profile is headlined by a fresh and fragrant aroma of Muscat grape, accompanied by notes of green apple, peach, and floral hints like elderflower. On the palate, it is fresh and light, featuring tropical fruit flavours such as lychee and mango, balanced by a zesty tartness and a slight spritz. The finish is well-balanced and clean. This white blend is primarily composed of Moscatel Graúdo and Arinto, with some versions including Vital. It is characterized by its low alcohol content of 9.5% ABV and a residual sugar level of approximately 19 g/L. The wine is fermented at 16°C for 20 days and aged for 5 months in stainless steel vats before bottling.
Food Pairing
Sanguinhal Sottal Leve is an versatile 'patio wine' that pairs excellently with snacks, salads, and tapas. Its bright acidity and light sweetness make it a suitable companion for seafood, grilled fish, and shellfish. It also complements lighter white meats such as chicken or pork, and works well with vegetable risotto or creamy soft cheeses.
