Pelee Island Cabernet Franc
Introduction
Pelee Island Winery is located in the South Islands sub-appellation of Ontario, Canada, on Pelee Island, the southernmost grape-growing region in the country. With a history dating back to 1854, the estate is regarded as the birthplace of winemaking in Canada. The winery operates over 700 acres of farmland with a philosophy deeply rooted in sustainability, being one of only five Ontario wineries to be both Sustainable Winemaking Ontario (SWO) Winery and Vineyard certified.
Wine Description
This Cabernet Franc is a deep ruby red wine that offers a bold yet elegant expression of the varietal. The nose features intense aromas of perfectly ripened red fruits, light currant jam, and a touch of spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and well-balanced, showcasing flavours of succulent summer berry pie, plum, and dark chocolate, layered with subtle notes of cedar and vanilla. It is characterized by vibrant acidity and velvety, finely grained tannins that lead into a long, graceful finish. Composed of 100% Cabernet Franc, this VQA wine is typically approachable upon release but can be cellared for several years to further develop its complexity.
