Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 2003

Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 2003

Produced in France, this exceptional red wine hails from the Margaux appellation within the Médoc region of Bordeaux. As the second label of the legendary Château Margaux, it benefits from the same prestigious terroir and meticulous winemaking standards as the Grand Vin. The estate has been under the visionary leadership of the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977; in 2003, Corinne Mentzelopoulos became the sole shareholder, continuing a legacy of rigorous selection and modernization that defines the winery's philosophy today.

Wine Description

The 2003 Pavillon Rouge is a monumental wine, noted for being richer in tannins than any Château Margaux produced in the four decades preceding it. It presents a full-bodied palate with chewy tannins and a rich, fruity profile featuring blackberry, plum, and redcurrant. The bouquet is complex and expressive, offering aromas of cedar, spices, and floral notes, alongside hints of toasted oak, vanilla, and peppermint. Despite its unusual power, the wine maintains a signature delicacy and smoothness, displaying a savory and classic style with a surprisingly fresh finish. This wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Currently at its peak, it offers a broad drinking window extending through 2033.
