Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky - 700 ml

Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky - 700 ml

Japan, Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai. Established in 1969, Miyagikyo is the second distillery founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who is widely considered the father of Japanese whisky. Owned by Asahi Group Holdings, the distillery was built in a lush valley to provide a complete contrast to the coastal Yoichi distillery, focusing on an elegant and fruity style using pot stills heated by indirect steam.

Description

This single malt displays a deep gold colour in the glass. The nose is rich and full flavoured, opening with concentrated iris and malted barley followed by exotic banana, liquorice, and a hint of burnt wood. On the palate, it is firm yet elegant, featuring core flavours of malted barley coated in herbaceous tones, ginger, cinnamon, and chocolate. The body is smooth and silky, leading to a long, soft finish that evokes wilted roses, tobacco, and stewed fruits like apple and damson. ABV 45%.

Food Pairing

The elegant fruitiness and sherry cask influence of this whisky pair beautifully with rich seafood such as sea urchin toast, grilled salmon, or scallops in cream sauce. It also complements savory poultry dishes like roast chicken or duck breast with honey and soy. For a sweet conclusion, try it alongside dark fruitcake, crème brûlée, or a fine milk chocolate.
