Kilkerran Heavily Peated Single Malt - Batch 12

Kilkerran Heavily Peated Single Malt - Batch 12

The Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 12 is a powerful and smoky single malt Scotch whisky from the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. Released in the summer of 2025, it is the twelfth edition of the 'Peat in Progress' series, which showcases the distillery's ability to balance intense peat smoke with traditional Campbeltown character. Glengyle Distillery was originally founded in 1872 by William Mitchell and, after being silent for 75 years, was revived in 2004 by J. & A. Mitchell & Co. Ltd., who also own the legendary Springbank Distillery.

Spirit Description

This non-age-statement expression is typically matured predominantly in ex-bourbon barrels and is crafted to a high peat level of approximately 45 PPM. It is bottled at a robust cask strength of 58.4% ABV.

  • Colour: It possesses a natural golden appearance, as it is non-chill filtered and contains no added colouring.

  • Aroma: The nose is characterized by thick, peppery cookfire smoke and charred oak, lifted by sweet notes of vanilla sponge cake, honeyed citrus zest, and tropical fruits like pineapple and melon.

  • Palate: It offers a rich and oily mouthfeel featuring a burst of fruity sweetness—reminiscent of canned fruit syrup and cantaloupe—layered with smoked bacon, sea salt, black pepper, and burnt cookies.

  • Body: The spirit is full-bodied and viscous, demonstrating a notable balance between earthy peat and maritime salinity.

  • Finish: It concludes with a long, savoury finish of mineral tanginess, ashy woodsmoke, and a light bready toastiness tinged with salt.
