Louis Latour Romanee St. Vivant Grand Cru 'Les Quatre Journaux' 2019

Louis Latour Romanee St. Vivant Grand Cru 'Les Quatre Journaux' 2019

Introduction

This red wine originates from France, specifically from the prestigious Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru vineyard in the Vosne-Romanée village of the Côte de Nuits subregion. Maison Louis Latour, founded in 1797, is one of Burgundy's most historic independent and family-owned négociant-éleveurs, currently in its 11th generation of ownership. The winery's philosophy emphasizes a commitment to traditional techniques, sustainable viticulture, and the unique use of gravity-flow winemaking in its historic Corton Grancey cuverie. The "Les Quatre Journaux" cuvée comes from a magnificent 0.8-hectare parcel situated just meters from the legendary Romanée-Conti vineyard, named after an old Burgundian land measurement called a "journal".

Wine Description

Louis Latour Romanée-St-Vivant 'Les Quatre Journaux' 2019 displays a deep ruby colour with a garnet hue. The nose is powerfully aromatic and ethereal, offering an intense perfume of black cherry, wild raspberry, and blackcurrant bud layered with notes of fresh violets, rose petals, pepper, and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is generous, fresh, and full-bodied, featuring a concentrated but graceful personality with seamlessly integrated baking-spice notes and silky, fine-grained tannins. It is characterized by its remarkable elegance, "essense-of-Burgundy" depth, and an extraordinary, mouth-watering persistence on the finish. This 100% Pinot Noir has an ABV of 14% and was aged for 10 to 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels produced by the winery's own onsite cooperage. While the estate has practiced sustainable viticulture since the 1990s, this specific bottling is not certified organic. The optimal drinking window is estimated from 2024 through 2054.

Accolades

  • James Suckling - 100 points.

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 93-95 points.
