Laphroaig Select
Introduction
Laphroaig Select is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Islay, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston and is now owned by Beam Suntory. Laphroaig is famous for being one of the most flavourful and peaty whiskies in the world, even earning a Royal Warrant from the Prince of Wales in 1994. This specific expression was created as a collaborative project, where the final blend was chosen by the 'Friends of Laphroaig' fan community from several potential recipes.
Spirit Description
The whisky has a sparkling gold appearance with layered tones. On the nose, it offers a forward aroma of medicinal peat smoke, followed quickly by ripe red fruits and a hint of citrus. The palate is initially sweet and full-bodied, giving way to the distillery's signature dry, ashy, and smoky character with notes of seaweed and soft vanilla. The finish is long and lingering, featuring floral notes and subtle hints of marzipan and lime. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is a blend of whiskies matured in five different cask types: Oloroso sherry butts, Pedro Ximénez hogsheads, first-fill bourbon barrels, quarter casks, and new American oak.
