La Chapelle de La Mission Haut Brion 2003
Introduction
This red wine is produced in France, specifically within the Bordeaux region in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is the second wine of the renowned Château La Mission Haut-Brion, an estate with a history dating back to the 17th century when it was founded by Lazarist priests. Currently owned by Domaine Clarence Dillon, the winery is celebrated for its gravelly terroir and its ability to produce powerful, complex wines that rival the First Growths.
Wine Description
La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2003 exhibits a developed garnet colour. The nose is aromatic and mature, featuring notes of smoke, tobacco, and scorched earth characteristic of the region, alongside fruit aromas of cassis and cranberry. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a soft, round texture and fully resolved tannins, offering flavours of sweet red fruit and a hint of forest floor. Uniquely for this vintage, the blend is reported to be dominated by Cabernet Franc (50%), accompanied by equal parts Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%). The wine has reached its full maturity and is best drunk now. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is 13%.
Food Pairing
This wine's earthy, smoky profile and soft structure make it a suitable partner for roasted meats that are not overly fatty. Consider pairing it with roast beef, rack of lamb with herbs, or dishes featuring mushrooms, such as a wild mushroom risotto or veal with morels.
