Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon Cask 55.6% ABV

Kavalan Distillery is Taiwan's first whisky maker and the nation's only family-owned whisky distillery. It is owned by the large Taiwanese conglomerate, the King Car Group, which was founded in 1956. The distillery, named after the indigenous Kavalan people, was completed in December 2005 and produced its first spirit in March 2006. Kavalan has quickly gained international recognition, winning numerous awards for its single malt whiskies, which are characterized by an exceptional aroma shaped by Taiwan's warm climate and the influence of renowned whisky experts.

Whisky Description

• Color: Luminous pale amber

• Aroma: The nose features clean and fresh tropical fruitiness, with pleasant notes of vanilla, coconut, and spices. Other notes can include poached pear, coconut ice, cardamom, and cinnamon.

• Palate: It is smooth and soft, with a well-balanced natural sweetness, vanilla, and oak spices. Notes of mango, pineapple, a thick layer of caramel, and vanilla pod earthiness are often present. The palate is round, complex, and boasts silky smoothness.

• Body: Full-flavoured and complex, this cask-strength, non-chill-filtered single malt has a substantial mouth-feel.

• Finish: The finish is rather long and smooth, marked by vanilla, caramel, light woodiness, and whisky spice, or cinnamon notes.

Food Pairing

Pair with aged, hard cheeses such as Gouda or Manchego, which have caramel-forward notes that mimic the whisky's flavour profile.
