Kavalan Distillery is Taiwan's first whisky maker and the nation's only family-owned whisky distillery. It is owned by the large Taiwanese conglomerate, the King Car Group, which was founded in 1956. The distillery, named after the indigenous Kavalan people, was completed in December 2005 and produced its first spirit in March 2006. Kavalan has quickly gained international recognition, winning numerous awards for its single malt whiskies, which are characterized by an exceptional aroma shaped by Taiwan's warm climate and the influence of renowned whisky experts.
