Jordan Chardonnay Russian River 2023

Jordan Chardonnay Russian River 2023

Introduction

This white wine originates from the United States, produced in the California region within the Russian River Valley subregion of Sonoma County. Established in 1972, Jordan Vineyard & Winery was inspired by the great wine estates of France and created as an homage to the connection between food, wine, and hospitality. The winery remains independently owned by John Jordan, whose parents founded the estate. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes European-style elegance, focusing on fruit and acidity rather than high alcohol, to ensure the wines complement a broad range of foods.

Wine Description

The Jordan Chardonnay Russian River 2023 displays a bright and lively character. The nose is aromatic, offering scents of white peach, pear, and lemon blossom, accented by notes of flint, wet stones, and delicate floral blooms. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and textural, featuring layered flavours of zesty lime, orange peel, and crisp red Bosc pear. It is characterized by its focused structure, refreshing acidity, and a silk-textured, mineral-driven finish. This 100% Chardonnay was aged for six months in 100% new French oak, with 47% fermented in stainless steel and 9% in concrete eggs to preserve its vibrancy. The ABV is 12.7%. While not certified organic, the winery is a certified sustainable vineyard and winery that follows natural habitat preservation and solar energy practices. The optimal drinking window is from release through several years of cellaring.

Accolades

  • James Suckling - 93 points.

Food Pairing

The elegant structure and crisp acidity of this Chardonnay make it a versatile partner for various cuisines. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as Dungeness crab, Tsar Nicoulai caviar, and Hawaiian blue prawns. It also complements roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes like fettuccine alfredo, and mushroom risotto. For a more exploratory pairing, consider mild curries or a garden vegetable medley with hazelnut vinaigrette.

Vintage Quality

The 2023 vintage in the Russian River Valley was a cool and steady growing season that resulted in one of the latest harvests in recent memory. These chilly conditions allowed for extended hang time, bringing gorgeously mature and concentrated flavours to the grapes while maintaining bright, lively acidity. Winemakers practiced extreme patience during the brisk season, ultimately achieving a beautifully balanced wine with incredible aromatic precision and purity of fruit.
