Jagermeister - 1.75 Litre
Jägermeister is a globally renowned herbal liqueur produced in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. Developed in 1934 by Curt Mast, the son of a vinegar manufacturer and an avid hunter, the name translates to "Master Hunter". The brand is owned by the family-run company Mast-Jägermeister SE and is instantly recognizable by its iconic green bottle and the stag emblem, which references the legend of Saint Hubertus.
2. Spirit Description
The production of Jägermeister is a meticulous process that takes roughly a year from start to finish. It is crafted from a secret recipe of 56 botanicals, including star anise, cinnamon, ginger roots, galangal, and orange peel.
Maceration: The raw ingredients are ground and steeped in a mixture of alcohol and water for several weeks to extract their essential oils.
Aging: The resulting "base" matures for about one year in one of 400 mighty oak barrels, some over a century old, allowing the complex flavours to "breathe" and harmonize.
Final Blend: Before bottling, the matured base is filtered and enriched with pure water, alcohol, caramel, and liquid sugar.
Profile: It has a thick, syrupy texture with a bold, multi-layered flavour. The experience begins with intense anise and licorice, followed by warm baking spices, a gentle herbal bitterness from roots (like gentian), and a zesty citrus lift.
Technical Details: Bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof).
