RyeLaw is a groundbreaking spirit from the InchDairnie Distillery in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland. It holds the distinction of being a single grain Scotch whisky made with a high proportion of rye, a rare practice in a country dominated by barley. The creation of RyeLaw was inspired by historical records, such as the 1908 Royal Commission Report, which confirmed that rye was traditionally used in Scotch production. To handle the viscous nature of rye, InchDairnie uses a hammer mill and a mash filter (one of only two in Scotland) before distilling the spirit in a bespoke Lomond Hill still to achieve precise flavor extraction.

Spirit Description

The whisky presents a deep golden amber color. On the nose, it is highly aromatic and complex, offering distinguished rye spices like clove and nutmeg alongside sweet notes of vanilla fudge, toasted brown bread, and cedarwood. The palate is characterized by an oily, mouth-coating viscosity that balances a "cascading" pepperiness from the rye. Flavors of golden syrup, blackcurrant, and cereal mingle with hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. The finish is long and warming, leaving a lingering trail of toasted rye grain and a touch of savory umami. It is typically bottled as a 5-year-old vintage at 46.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural color.
