Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Green River Bourbon is produced in the United States, within the region of Kentucky and the subregion of Owensboro. Founded in 1885 by J.W. McCulloch, the Green River Distillery is the 10th oldest licensed distillery in Kentucky and was once world-renowned for "The Whiskey Without Regrets". After decades of silence following Prohibition and a major fire, the brand was officially relaunched in 2022 and subsequently acquired by the Bardstown Bourbon Company. It remains a major anchor of western Kentucky's bourbon heritage as the westernmost stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
Spirit Description
The flagship Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a high-rye expression aged for a minimum of five years in traditional rickhouses. It is crafted from a mash bill of 70% locally grown corn, 21% winter rye, and 9% malted barley. In the glass, it presents a burnished copper or honey-gold appearance. The nose is refined and floral, offering aromas of rich caramel, toffee, and vanilla, accented by hints of wood shavings and freshly ground coffee. On the palate, it is smooth and sweet with a prominent apple character reminiscent of apple coffee cake, balanced by warming rye spices like cinnamon, allspice, and orange zest. The finish is long and clean, leaving a trail of spiced honey and apple-flavored cereal. It is bottled at a classic 45% ABV (90 proof).
