Gerard Bertrand Clos du Temple Rose 2023 - 3 Bottles
Gérard Bertrand Clos du Temple Rosé 2023 is the flagship "prestige" rosé from the Cabrières terroir in Languedoc, famously marketed as the most expensive and arguably the finest rosé in the world. Produced at a state-of-the-art gravity-fed cellar, this wine is a tribute to the historic birthplace of French rosé. It is crafted from a unique blend of four red grapes and one white grape, grown on 11 specific plots of schist and limestone soil. The estate follows strict biodynamic principles (Demeter certified), using mules and horses for vineyard work to maintain soil health. The 2023 vintage continues the tradition of fermenting and aging the wine for six months in new French oak barrels, resulting in a "gastronomic" rosé built for longevity.
Wine Description
The 2023 vintage is exceptionally pale with a glittering, translucent pink hue and copper reflections.
Nose: It offers a highly sophisticated and multi-layered bouquet. Primary notes of ripe apricot and white peach are intertwined with floral scents of rose petals and violets. Complex secondary aromas of green pepper, blond tobacco, and "addictive" oak influences—like marzipan, nougat, and nut butter—emerge as it breathes.
Palate: The mouthfeel is ample, silky, and perfectly balanced. It mirrors the nose with juicy stone fruit and wild berries, supported by a distinct mineral saltiness and brilliant acidity. The oak is masterfully integrated, providing structure without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish: Remarkably long and persistent, characterized by a clean, mineral finish with lingering notes of white pepper and spice. It is bottled at 14% ABV
Food Pairing
Clos du Temple is designed to be served at 10°C and paired with the same level of cuisine as a Grand Cru Burgundy.
Seafood: It is a superlative match for lobster, seared scallops, or tuna tataki, where the wine's minerality and weight complement the rich textures of the shellfish.
Poultry & Meats: Pairs elegantly with roast chicken, veal, or smoked meats. The spice and tobacco notes in the finish make it one of the few rosés that can handle savory meat dishes.
Exotic Cuisine: The Viognier-infusion and fresh acidity allow it to stand up to refined Asian dishes or spicy Mediterranean fare like saffron-infused bouillabaisse.
Cheese: Try it with matured Comté or Brillat-Savarin; the wine’s creamy oak and nut-butter notes harmonize beautifully with high-fat, high-umami cheeses.
