Fielding Unoaked Chardonnay 2024
Introduction
Fielding Unoaked Chardonnay is a premium white wine originating from the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. The wine is produced by Fielding Estate Winery, a family-owned operation situated on the Beamsville Bench, a sub-appellation renowned for its cool-climate viticulture. Founded by Ken and Marg Fielding, the winery is affectionately known as 'The Wine Lodge' and features architecture inspired by Northern Ontario's cottage country.
Wine Description
This 100% Chardonnay presents a brilliant straw-yellow hue in the glass. The sensory profile is fruit-driven and fresh, with aromatics of Honeycrisp apple, nectarine, melon, and tropical hints of pineapple and guava. On the palate, it is light and crisp, showcasing flavours of orchard fruit, citrus, and a subtle streak of minerality or salinity. While the body is light and refreshing, the wine possesses a remarkable roundness and texture derived from being kept on its lees, leading to a clean, vibrant finish. Fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel to preserve its natural acidity, it did not undergo malolactic fermentation. This wine is typically enjoyed in its youth to maintain its freshness, with some vintages suggested for consumption within a four-year window. It has an ABV of 12.5%. There is no indication that this wine is certified organic, though the winery emphasizes sustainable farming and minimalist winemaking.
