Felton Road Pinot Noir 'Macmuir' 2023
Introduction
This red wine originates from New Zealand, specifically from the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Established in 1991, Felton Road is a world renowned estate that has become a benchmark for cool climate winemaking under the ownership of Nigel Greening and the technical guidance of founding winemaker Blair Walter. The winery operates on a domaine model, utilizing exclusively estate grown fruit from vineyards managed with a strict commitment to organic and biodynamic principles.
Wine Description
Felton Road Pinot Noir Macmuir presents a deep colour with an intense and complex sensory profile. The nose is richly fragrant, offering aromatics of morello cherry, dark plum, and violets layered with savoury notes of dried thyme, sage, and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is bold and concentrated, featuring black fruit flavours, liquorice, and anise supported by fine grained, powdery tannins. It is characterized by a svelte, polished texture and a distinct mineral tension that leads to a long, finely tuned finish. This 100% Pinot Noir is crafted using gravity flow, native yeast fermentation, and approximately 25% whole clusters before aging for 13 months in French oak barrels. The wine is fully certified organic by BioGro and biodynamic by Demeter. The ABV typically ranges between 14% and 14.5%.
