Duckhorn Merlot Three Palms 2018 - 3 Litre Bottle
Introduction
This red wine originates from the United States, specifically from the Calistoga subregion of the Napa Valley in California. Founded in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, Duckhorn Vineyards was a pioneer in North America for treating Merlot as a premium standalone varietal rather than just a blending grape. The Three Palms Vineyard, named for the three iconic palm trees that stand sentinel over its gravelly soils, is widely considered one of the finest sites for Merlot in the New World. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a commitment to quality and consistency, utilizing small lot fermentation and French oak aging to craft wines of remarkable depth and elegance.
Wine Description
Duckhorn Merlot Three Palms displays a beautiful garnet or deep ruby hue. The nose is alluring and complex, offering aromas of huckleberry, fig jam, and cranberry layered with notes of cocoa, rose petals, and spiced plum. On the palate, the wine is elegantly full bodied and velvety, featuring intense flavours of blackberry, cherry, and red licorice accented by molasses and a distinct wet slate minerality. It is characterized by a sumptuous structure, lively acidity, and fine, graceful tannins that lead to a lush and lingering finish. This blend consists of 87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Malbec, and 1% Cabernet Franc, with an ABV of 14.5%. While the estate follows meticulous sustainable practices, this bottling is not certified organic. The optimal drinking window is from 2026 through 2036, though its concentration suggests it can be enjoyed through 2045+.
