Dezzani Otto Bucce Rosso 2022
Dezzani Otto Bucce Rosso is a complex red blend produced in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. The winery was founded in 1934 by Luigi Dezzani Sr., and it has since grown into a prominent estate that balances traditional Piedmontese heritage with innovative winemaking. The name 'Otto Bucce' translates to 'eight skins', reflecting the winery's unique philosophy of blending eight distinct grape varieties to create a harmonious and multi-layered expression of the local terroir.
Wine Description
This wine presents an intense ruby red colour enhanced by brilliant purple highlights. The bouquet is expressive and harmonic, offering a concentrated nose of cassis, black cherries, and licorice, along with delicate notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, delivering a 'winey' taste with flavours of red fruits, blackberry, and a hint of earthy minerals. The structure is defined by creamy, well-integrated tannins and a subtle off-dry feel that contributes to a smooth, generous mouthfeel. This blend consists of Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Bonarda, and Albarossa, combined with Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It typically has an ABV of 13.5% and is aged for 12 months in a combination of large traditional barrels and French oak. This wine is vegan-friendly.
Food Pairing
The balanced acidity and spiced fruit profile of this wine make it an excellent partner for a variety of Italian and international dishes. It pairs beautifully with appetizers such as cold cuts, charcuterie, and light first courses like pasta with tomatoes or mushrooms. For main courses, it is ideally suited to grilled or barbecued meats, beef wellington, spare ribs, and hearty stews. It also harmonizes well with savory veggie or meat lover's pizzas.
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"With a dense color, the wine immediately reveals intense sweet and savory spice aromas followed by dark and ripe black-fruited characteristics. Lush on the palate, it offers blackberry, spice and fine tannins. A flashy wine that makes a statement."
