Dezzani Langhe Nebbiolo 2023
Introduction
Dezzani Langhe Nebbiolo originates from the Langhe hills in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. The winery was founded in 1934 by Luigi Dezzani Sr. in Cocconato d'Asti, a location historically renowned for a microclimate that uniquely benefits grape cultivation. Today, the estate is led by the third generation of the Dezzani family in partnership with the Rocca family and the Villa Rivalta cooperative, maintaining a philosophy that balances traditional Piedmontese typicity with modern winemaking technology.
Wine Description
This 100% Nebbiolo presents an intense red colour with bright garnet highlights. The sensory profile is fresh and fruity, featuring an engaging bouquet of crushed raspberries, sour cherries, and mint, complemented by floral notes of dried rose and heather. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and harmonious, delivering juvenile aromas of ripe fruit alongside herbal and spicy scents. It is characterized by a focused structure with 'dusty' minerality and pleasantly firm, sometimes astringent tannins that lead to a persistent finish. The wine typically has an ABV of 13.5% and undergoes refinement in concrete tanks and traditional oak barrels before further aging in the bottle.
Food Pairing
The fresh acidity and tannic structure of this Nebbiolo make it a natural partner for a wide variety of savoury dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with red and white meats served with rich dressings, such as roasted lamb, spicy sausages, or game. Its herbal and spicy undertones also complement elaborate first courses like pasta with mushroom sauce or BBQ marinated pork ribs. For a simpler option, it can be served as an aperitif alongside charcuterie and hard cheeses.
