Chateau Palmer 2008

Chateau Palmer 2008

Produced in France, specifically within the Margaux appellation of the Médoc, this wine is the flagship red of the historic Château Palmer. Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate's lineage dates back to 1814 when British Major General Charles Palmer purchased the property. Currently owned by a consortium of the Mahler-Besse and Sichel families, the winery is renowned for a philosophy of 'elegance through adversity' and has become a leader in sustainable viticulture, transitioning to 100% biodynamic farming across its 55 hectares.

Wine Description

The 2008 vintage presents a dense, inky purple colour and is noted for its extraordinary intensity and 13.5% natural alcohol—among the highest ever achieved at the property. The nose is complex and sophisticated, offering a glorious bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry, interwoven with notes of barbecue smoke, licorice, incense, and crushed violets. On the full-bodied palate, the wine reveals a sensational density of fruit and a supple, velvet-like texture. Stylistically, it is celebrated for its 'balletic' quality, balancing immense power with incredible precision and a long, perfumed finish of graphite and cedar. Composed of 51% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Petit Verdot, this wine is currently in its prime drinking window and possesses the structure to age gracefully through 2053.
